The Application Process

Key Dates:

29th January 2020, 12pm -Applications close

You must submit your application online, including a 300 word supporting statement and your photo. You can write your ideas for improving the area you'd oversee, and your skills and experience which would make you the ideal fit. Before you submit your application, you should ensure you have read the election handbook, which includes the rules of the application process.

You can submit your application by going onto 'Your Account/Profile' on the top left of the UWSU website. From there, click on 'my nominations' where you will see the avaliable roles up for election. If you wish to apply for a role which isn't listed, then double check your account settings that you have self-identified into all the relevant groups.

30th January 2020, 5pm -Candidates Meeting. Location TBC.

Grab a slice of free pizza with us, as we help explain what will be coming up and you can ask any questions of the SU staff team. If you can’t make this, please let know as soon as possible.

3rd February 2020, 10am -Trustee Declaration Form deadline

If you are running for a full-time officer role, you must submit your trustee declaration form to by this date. If you think you might not be eligible because of difficulties in your financial past or unspent convictions, please get in touch with us.

5th-6th February 2020, 9:30am-4:30pm -Campaign Publicity Prep

We want to help promote you. Closer to the time, we will send you a doodle poll where you can sign up for a slot to get a professional video taken to enhance your campaign, as well as a photo of yourself. We are also hosting a craft zone, to help provide you with resources to help you creatively plan your campaign. Pop in at your leisure when it suits you over these two days.

7th February 2020, 12pm -Free leaflets deadline

Each candidate will be eligible for 1,000 single-sided A5 leaflets to hand out during their campaign. These will be avaliable to collect from the Debate Night.

7th February 2020, 2pm -Candidate List reveal and endorsements open

The candidate list will be revealed which means clubs and societies can start endorsing candidates. If a student group decides to endorse you, this means they can promote you on their sociaal media, and encourage others to vote for you. They must follow the endorsement process for the endorsement, or risk penalisation. 

17th February, 10am to 20th February, 7pm -Voting open

Your opportunity to go to each campus and show as many students as possible why they should vote for you. 

Members of SU staff will also be at the ballot stations on each campus between 11am-3pm. 

Need a second to de-stress? We will be hosting Chill Out Rooms and Candidate Breakfasts across the four days, more information coming soon.

20th February, 7pm -Expenses deadline

You will recieve a small additional budget to spend your campaign. You may not spend any money above this budget. You will be infnormed of how much this is at the close of nominations. This will be reimburssed on the production of reciepts. Find out more information in the election handbook

20th February 2020, 7pm -Candidates De-brief. Location TBC.

And relax! It's all over. Come and grab some free pizza and unwind from a busy few days before heading home for a long sleep!

21st February 2020, 5pm -Results Night. The Hideaway, Regent St Campus

Put on your best clothes and come along to the Hideaway to find out who will be the 2020-2021 UWSU Officer Team. First drink (non-alcoholic or alcoholic, from a specified selection) is on us!
